Adventure Day!

July 6: It’s travel day! We had great hopes of leaving by 7 or 8 am but didn’t make it out of the house until around 10! Oops. :) No biggie. Filled up the gas, filled up with Starbucks, and then we were on the road. Easy drive to border. We crossed at Sumas. A little bit of a wait, but no problems with the crossing. So happy Meadow’s passport came in on time!
Once we crossed the border, we began driving on Canada’s Highway 1 East. We drove through so many different biomes in just a few hours! We stopped for a late lunch in Cache Creek, BC. It was an amazing taco place with the best salsa bar I’ve ever seen. Watermelon, kiwi, cantaloupe, and blueberry salsas were available, as well as just as varied hot sauces. Delicious! Our next leg of the trip was quite a haul. I drove for a few hours with the camper – it was fun!
Turned off HWY 97 to head to the Forest Rose campsite near Barkeville, BC. It was around 10 pm and we had an hour drive to the site. Nobody was on the road, it was very dark, and we started to see the first wildlife of the trip! There was a roly-poly black bear who lumbered off to the side of the road, and then we saw multiple big animals that we couldn’t quite tell if they were small or cow moose, or elk. Very cool, though!
